Abstract Submission

The deadline for abstract submission is 23:59 (GMT), Sunday 16th November 2025. 

The abstract should be a maximum of 400 words (excluding title)

Submissions accepted as: 

  • Presentation (maximum 15 minutes including Q&A)
  • Lightning talk (maximum 5 minutes no Q&A)
  • Workshop (maximum 90 minutes)
  • Poster

Submissions will be accepted under our five key themes:​

Research & Impact

  • Showcasing research by information specialists – from methods to outcomes
  • Impact stories: how research and information expertise have influenced practice or policy
  • Patient and public involvement (PPI) in research methods and dissemination
  • New methods, key learnings, and their implications for the wider community

Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies

  • Practical applications of AI and large language models for information specialists
  • Prompting techniques, new tools, and emerging best practice
  • Ethical and environmental considerations in the use of AI and digital technologies

Funding & Collaboration

  • Approaches to writing successful funding bids, particularly for those new to research
  • Sources of funding and how to access them
  • Case studies of collaborative bids and the role of information specialists
  • Opportunities and challenges in interdisciplinary funding collaborations

Careers & Professional Development

  • Insights into building and sustaining a career as an information professional
  • Experiences from freelancers and consultants in the field
  • Skills development and pathways for the next generation of information specialists

Networking

  • Creative approaches to connecting and collaborating with peers
  • Strategies for building professional networks across institutions and disciplines
  • Activities that foster meaningful connections at events and beyond

Submission Guidelines

Your abstract will be assessed during the reviewing process which will take place after the abstract deadline. 


  • Your abstract should be structured and may use sub-headings in plain text.
  • You may include results, including statistical where appropriate.
  • Any works in progress/interim results must be noted as such.
  • You can draft your abstract in Word (or equivalent) and copy and paste into the online abstract submission form.
  • You will be asked to provide three keywords that describe your abstract – this is to help the organisers place accepted oral presentations and posters into themes and groupings.
  • Once your abstract is submitted, you will be able to edit your response up to the deadline of 23:59 (GMT), Sunday 16th November 2025. Once the deadline has passed, no amendments can be made. If your abstract is accepted, you will be given the opportunity to make any necessary minor amendments prior to the event.
  • Posters must be in PORTRAIT format (NOT landscape). Size: A0 - 84.1 cm (width) x 118.9 cm (length) or 33.11 inches (width) x 46.81 inches (length). Posters exceeding these dimensions will not be accepted. Posters must be printed before arriving at the event. All text must be in English. 
  • You will be asked to indicate a preference for presentation, lightning talk, or poster; however, the final decision on the type of presentation offered is made by the abstract subcommittee. We also request a high resolution digital version of the poster to display on screens within The Catalyst at the event.
  • All presenters of accepted abstracts are required to register and attend the conference. 
  • The organisers reserve the right to withdraw abstracts if presenters have not registered. 
  • Data Protection: The information provided in this form will be used for the purpose of the organisation of the CORE Information Retrieval Forum 2026 taking place at The Catalyst, Newcastle Helix on Thursday 29th January 2026. This data will be kept for one year.
